SR: The Great Gatsby EN

The Great Gatsby (2013) by Baz Luhrmann
Feels a bit like a series of explosions. But you do not get the sense of the stunning preciseness of the editing as in Moulin Rouge (2001). The glittering, roaring attack on your senses rather disturbs you from watching the film.
Then the voice-over says: ‘His hand was reaching into the darkness’ and Gatsby’s hand is reaching into the darkness, and you think this is the devaluation of the film language.
But you like a few things. I am not sure if DiCaprio has the mythical Gatsby’s charisma, but roles of the men deeply in love clearly belong to him, especially when he has a wet face – Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet (1996).
